Dorich pavilion

"A PAVILION INSPIRED BY A JAPANESE HISTORIAN."
Location: Kingston, Greater London, England.
Project year: 2015-2016
Designed & build by: Kingston University Unit 5
Tutors: Simon Jones & Takeshi Hayatsu
Our first foray into self build was the design and construction of a pavilion for the grounds of the Dorich House Museum with our Kingston Masters Unit 5. Influenced by Japanese Architect and Historian Professor Terunobu Fujimori our roles were key in the successful detailing and fabrication of the structure. The OSB-Softwood panel construction provides two tiers - each which cantilever and increase in area to provide an informal meeting room in the centre and a viewing deck with seating at the top. Situated on the border of Richmond park the structure is clad in Zinc, hand split wooden shingles and Yakisugi - a traditional Japanese charring technique that waterproofs and fireproofs the material.
