Sheds, Outhouses and Back Garages are locations where dreams are hatched. Race-Shed revitalises an existing condition to provide a workshop to strive towards exceptional achievements from the most normal surroundings. “Every space has extraordinary potential.” The design juxtaposed a crisp CLT structure a retained brick wall. Salvaged Zinc clads exposed external timber surfaces. The maximised footprint provided adequate area to work on all sides of a prototype racing car with workbenches giving room for parts fabrication. An over- sailing metal deck roof subtly hints at the activity inside, linking to the rich history of the locality whilst providing ample natural light. A large format window frames the project from the private side.
